Global management consulting firm, Accenture, is set to move its South African head office to the Waterfall City mega development node in central Gauteng by the end of the year. Accenture SA confirmed to SAPropertyInsider this week its planned move to a new 3875m², multi-million rand office building in Waterfall City – the burgeoning new CBD being driven by JSE-listed property group Attacq.
Accenture SA is the latest big name corporate to announce its move to Waterfall City, with the sod-turning ceremony for its new head office having taken place last week. The building is being developed as a joint venture between Attacq and Zenprop, both noted as major SA property developers and investors.
It is located within Waterfall’s Corporate Campus, which is on the corner of the newly named Waterfall Drive and Jukskei View Drive. According to Accenture, the developers aim for the building to have a 4 Green Star rating from the Green Building Council of SA.
“The building was designed with maximum efficiency and occupant comfort in mind, allowing natural light into all work areas… Waterfall Corporate Campus will also feature a communal restaurant and conference facilities as well as green and relaxation areas,” it said.
Questioned why Waterfall was chosen as the location of its new SA head office, Accenture said: “Waterfall is increasingly becoming the hub of consulting and professional services firms in Gauteng. As Accenture look to develop and expand its footprint on the African continent, the company felt it prudent to situate in what is fast becoming one of Africa’s fastest emerging and increasingly smart cities.
“The move will also allow Accenture clients – through the Accenture Innovation Architecture – to imagine the future, develop and deliver disruptive innovations, as well as scale them faster.”
Attacq has already secured PwC and Deloitte, two of the world’s largest auditing and professional services firms, to relocate and consolidate its South African and African headquarters in Waterfall City. PwC has just moved into its new 26-storey tower, which overlooks Attacq’s 131,000m² Mall of Africa, while Deloitte’s 42,500m² SA head office is set to be complete in the second quarter of 2020. Both projects came about through Atterbury Property’s founding association with Attacq and represent investments of well over a billion rand each.
For Attacq, the end of Atterbury’s exclusive development manager mandate on Waterfall projects has opened up opportunities to also work with other joint venture partners in developing Waterfall. According to Attacq’s audited financial statements for the year ending June 2017, its 50/50 joint venture with Zenprop on the Waterfall Corporate Campus development will see approximately R875 million used to develop six office buildings with 34,000m² of space.
Group Five, the JSE-listed construction giant which is also headquartered in Waterfall, has been awarded the contract to build Accenture SA’s new head office at Waterfall Corporate Campus. Accenture anticipates moving out of its current premises at Harrowdene Office Park in Woodmead to Waterfall by December this year.
